Awesome performances today!!  I have never been so proud of our athletes!!!!  The athletes really outdid themselves at today's competition!!!  We had three school records set this afternoon and a total of eight personal best performances for the Immaculate athletes!!!   The Immaculate girls scored a total of ten points as a team and finished in a tie for eleventh place!!! 
 
The day started by an outstanding performance from Michele Renzi.  Michele has been very consistent this season and has been showing stead improvement as the season progressed.  Today, Michele hard work paid off.  Michele ran outside of her comfort zone for the first half of the race and was able to finish strong and finish in fifth place in a personal best time of 11:49.4!!   In the 1500 meters, Alyson Walsh went out hard and was able to finish strong to finish in seventh place with a solid time of 5:27!  Approximately one hour later, Alyson competed in the 800 meters and was able to finish in fifth place with a personal best time of 2:35.50!!  Aly's training partner and friend from Jamestown Katie Brayman also ran the 1500 and the 800 meters!   Kat finished the race in fifth place with an impressive time of 5:20.7!  Katy returned to return in the 800 and finished in eight place with a time of 2:40.4!  Also running well in the seeded heat of the 800 was Chiara DiPalma.  Chiara was a bit tired today after playing in a soccer match in the morning but she still managed to run a respectable time of 2:46.5.  One of the biggest surprises of the day occurred in the second heat of the 800 meters.  Maddison Cocca took off at the start to grab the lead and ran the best race of her life!!!   Maddison was able to finish the race in second place in a time of 2:44!!!  This time bested Maddison's previous best performance in the 800 meters by almost nine seconds!!!  Incredible performance!!!  In the 200 meters the runners faced a stiff head wind for much of the race.  Chiara DiPalma though was able to cut through the head wind and to finish in sixth place with a time of 29 seconds! 
 
The fun did not stop there!  In the field events, Victoria Morales competing in the turbo javelin for only the second time and got off a throw of  50' 4"!  In the shot put, Ashley Flaherty turned in her best performance to date by throwing the eight pound shot 21' 11"!  This throw bested Ashley's previous best throw by over 2 feet!  (If only she had been able to use the eigth pound shot all season!)  Ashley's throw broke her previous school record!
 
In the relays, the girl really shined!!  First in the 4 x 100 relay, the girls' time once again lowered the school record!!  The team of Victoria Vieirra, Katie Langlais, Qiana Ferarro and Jeneva Ahearn finished in thirteenth place and ran a time of 61.7!!  This time broke the school record that had been set two weeks ago!!!   The girls 4 x 100 relay has lowered the school record time by almost four seconds this season alone!!
 
Perhaps the best performance of the day for Immaculate was turned in by the 4 x 400 meter relay team.  The quartet of Chiara DiPalma, Michele Renzi, Emma Gesualdi, and Alyson Walsh ran a superb race!!!  The team finished in a time of 4:42.9 !!  The team broke a school record that had stood for four years!!!  The team finished in fourth place in the competition! This was the first time an Immaculate team medaled in a relay event at the State Championships!   Michele (71.5) and Emma (71.2) both ran personal best times for the second and third leg of the relay.  Chiara ran a strong lead off leg in 72.2 and Alyson ran a sensational anchor leg of 67.8!!  

The Parent Class Liaison is chosen by the Principal and teaching staff to serve as the volunteer parent contact for supporting the classroom/homeroom teacher and helping in specific class logistics such as coordinating a prayer service breakfast, organizing holiday gifts, reaching out to parents for field trips or other specific class events.  All Parent Class Liaisons are asked to allow their contact information be shared with the class/homeroom parents in the case of a parent question.  Parent Liaisons will be asked to reach out to new families who join a particular class for the 2013-2014 school year.  Parent Liaisons should be comfortable utilizing email as a primary form of communication.

Bill 2013H 6131, RELATING TO EDUCATION-PARENTAL CHOICE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ACT,

 

was submitted by Representatives Coderre and Corvese on Thursday, May 16. When approved, this bill will assist parents in choosing the right school for their child. Expanding school choice and competition is one of the most important actions we can take to improve Rhode Island's schools. Expanded school choice may face strong opposition, however studies have exhibited that expanded choice improves student achievement, reduces segregation, promotes civic values, and facilitates other productive reforms.  Parental Choice in Education can take the form of issued educational vouchers, saving accounts and corporate tax credits.

 

We need all parents to reach out to their legislators now to let them know you support this bill. Once a committee hearing date has been established, you will be asked to join us at the State House to rally in favor of the bill.
